San Francisco Engagement Photography

Well well well…..looks like someone popped the question, and it looks like someone said YES! If you have recently been proposed to, many many congratulations. I am sure you are both ecstatic and this is the beginning of many great things to come!

Once things settle down, the next big question is WHEN, and if you have already set a date it’s a good idea to start your wedding planning now. One of the first things to consider is an Engagement Photo Session. If you are wondering why, well consider this, it’s the beginning of your entire wedding story, and what better way to add to the documentation of your big day? As wedding photographers we make it a point to get to know our clients, we learn about their cultures, traditions, lifestyle and all relevance surrounding this special occasion. With this in mind, we work with them in arranging and directing a photo session that is all about the couple.

Many couples also take this time to focus on themselves, relish in how they met, how they became engaged, and to start a collection of photographs which later will be considered as precious heirlooms. Aside from this, nothing beats getting to know your photographer and getting a sneak preview of how you both will photograph on what will be one of the most important days of your lives. Nothing could be worse than having an amazing wedding, then off to your honeymoon only to return and see wedding photos of yourselves that you absolutely hate!

You also may consider in using these photographs for save-the-dates, wedding invitations, matted enlargements for guests to sign or for a slide show which can be projected at your wedding reception, and of course to add as fine art prints to your home’s decor. The possibilities are endless. When your wedding photographer suggests an Engagement Session, understand that this is not to make additional sales, we are professionals and it would be a shame if this was not presented to the couples, it really is for the two of you. You will thank your photographer for looking out for you and capturing some of the most intimate, beautiful and cherished photographs.

What to Do With Your Wedding Photos

Your wedding photos are one of the most important things that you will have after your wedding.  These photos will capture all of your wonderful memories of your wedding – from the ceremony to the cake to the flowers to the love you shared with your groom.  Many brides often wonder what to do with their wedding photos after wards.  They often have a wedding album, but don’t know what else they should do.  Here are 5 of the best things you can do to make your wedding photos last a lifetime.

1.       Show Them Off:  A gorgeous way to remember your wedding is to choose a few photos that are significant to you and display them around the house.  Many couples enlarge and frame  one or two photos to make them look  dramatic.  These photos are much more personal and are a great way to decorate your home, and should be considered “fine art photography.”    Some couples love to have portraits in their bedroom as a reminder of their love.

2.       Use them in your wedding Thank You Cards:  One great way to send a thank you to your guests is to use your wedding photos to make a beautiful thank you card.  You can either do it in a collage or just select a few key photos that you loved.  This will help your guests remember the great time they had at your wedding and also make the thank you card a lot more personal.

3.       Make wedding books:  One of the best things to do with your wedding photos is to make wedding albums for your parents and close family.  Think of all of the people that helped you plan and prepare for the wedding, what better way to thank them than to put together a special album with many of their pictures and yours to give to them?  This is such a special day for them as well and having something to remember it by is one of the gifts they’ll treasure forever.

4.       Celebrate Your Anniversary:  Once a year, on your anniversary, you will think back to that fantastic wedding day that you shared with your husband.  When you do this, you’ll definitely want to see the wedding photos.  On your wedding anniversary, use the day to look through the wedding albums and your different photos to remember your vows and the special details of your wedding.  Many brides like looking through these albums to remind them of all of the fun they had finding their wedding dress and  wedding shoes, while grooms like to look at the fun pictures they took.  This will help the two of you remember why you got married and renew those special vows.

5.       Frame them for the office:  A great present to give to your husband is a frame with a fun wedding photo for his office.  This way, he’ll have a great picture of the two of you to show to his co-workers and friends.  It’s always nice to make the office feel more like home and what better way than a picture of the two of you looking happy on your wedding day.

There are many other things to do with your wedding photos that cherish great memories for you, your groom, and your family.  We’ve shared some of our favorites, but we know there are so many other creative ways to remember your wedding day.  Most importantly, don’t forget to book your photographer early so you will have the option of using your beautiful photos for many things.

Hope & Healing Benefit Concert 2010

Marina LaValle, Hope and Healing Concert 2010

YStudio had the privilege of being a sponsor contributing photography for this years Hope & Healing Concert Presented by the Instituto Familiar de la Raza in San Francisco, California.

This year the event’s fundraiser hosted the songstress of Afro-Peruvian song, Ms. Marina LaValle. The event kicked off on Friday afternoon, October 22nd, with a Social Gathering and dinner at the home of Miguel Bustos which is located in the heart of the San Francisco’s Mission District. Many guests who attended the private social gathering and dinner referred to this being a special event held in the “purple house!” Special guests included Peter Bratt, Film Director of the film “La Mision”, and the Hector Lugo Trio.

The event which was produced by La Bohemia and the Insituto Familiar de la Raza was organized in a manner that was about community outreach, culture, awareness, kinship, and social justice. The overwhelming response and the entire event was wrapped up with an evening at the San Francisco Brava Theater with an amazingly spirited concert and performance by none other than Marina LaValle and her ensemble.

The performances were striking, powerful, impacting and spirited to say the least. We again were privileged to have been among the many sponsors for this event, and we would like to share a few of our favorite images from this event.

YStudio Goes Pin-up!

This past year we have had tons of fun, but one of the most exciting new additions we made is a team collaborated Pin-up series!  What started as a curiosity and a test shoot for one of our lovely models, Lynn, has turned into an epic series we now call “Love & War in the 1940′s.

The photo shoots were then schedule, themed, styled and thought out pretty carefully in order to tell a story by way of images.  Although we as a team are all just toying with the ideas, we pretty much put together a very nice series, we can can only get better, we thought!  But, as soon as we starting sharing these images on Facebook, Twitter and with our friends and clients, the response was overwhelming!  Men were writing to us encouraging us to try to get published, and to join Pinup Lifestyle’s Pin-up Calendar contest, so we did!  We currently are one of the many entrants in the contest, check out this whole new world of vintage and pin-up, it ROCKS!

YStudio is also now offering Pin-up and Boudoir Parties which are ideal for Bachelorette Parties (gift from bride to her BM’s and MOH’s), or simply to present their hubbies or boyfriends with a hot, steamy, tasteful vintage photos.  What guy wouldn’t want his own sexy gal in lights?  If you are interested in booking your party, please call the studio as we are booking fast.  We can host your party at our studio, which we recommend, or we can bring the studio to YOU at your home or any hotel suite.  Parties can be a red-carpet package which includes hair and makeup or you can also opt for mini-shoots.
